里士满联储行长巴尔金在接受采访时表示,如果通胀并未如官员们预期般迅速降温,那么他对继续加息持非常开放的态度。
巴尔金表示:“有个说法很合理:利率变动的滞后效应加上经济中的信贷紧缩,再加上新冠疫情时代刺激措施的消退,将导致需求下降并使通胀相对迅速地降温。但我仍然希望被说服”。
“对我来说,这将取决于我对需求降温程度的看法,以及需求降温对通胀的遏制程度。如果通胀率似乎没有如预期般下降,那么我对进一步紧缩持开放态度。另一方面,如果事态发展让我放心地认为通胀正在朝着我们的目标这一正确方向前进,那么我会非常乐于等待”。
这位官员表示,鉴于政策滞后影响和信贷状况的不确定性,他对依赖于数据感到放心。巴尔金今年在货币政策方面没有投票权。
